North Attleborough -

Before a packed house at Highland Hills Country Club, Rep. Betty Poirier announced her bid for re-election, citing as one of her accomplishments the securing of $200,000 for the repair of the Fisher Street Bridge.

With guests that included Board of Selectmen Chairman William Moffitt, Selectmen John Rhyno, Town Administrator Mark Fisher, Poirier touted her agenda as one which seeks to bring jobs to the people of North Attleborough, strengthen public safety and education, and bringing the "greatest of care to seniors and veterans."

She also cited her efforts as what brought security cameras to the high and middle schools.

Poirier was introduced by Rep. John Lepper of Attleboro, who previously announced he would not seek re-election.

Lepper praised Poirier and the Republican Caucus for bringing to the Commonwealth the "stiffest drunk driving laws in the nation."

Also speaking were State Sen. Scott Brown, who has also announced his candidacy for re-election, House Minority Leader Brad Jones and Mansfield Representative Jay Barrows.

Poirier said she is working with Bristol Community College to expand its footprint in the Attleboro area, and in North Attleborough is always seeking ways to improve the quality of life for the residents in town.

Jones said that “Betty takes the time to recognize the things that are important in people's lives."

Poirier was lauded for the many citations she hands out, something he never did, Lepper said. "Everyone has to find their voice," he said. "Betty has found hers.

Jones said that Poirier "takes the time to recognize the things that are important in people's lives."

Poirier represents the 14th Bristol District, consisting of precinct B of ward 3, Attleboro; precincts 2 and 5, Mansfield, North Attleborough, and precinct 2, Norton.

She is a graduate of North Attleborough High School and Johnson & Wales University.

Poirier serves on the House Committee on Steering, Policy and Scheduling, Joint Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets, Joint Committee on Elder Affairs and Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs.
