North Attleborough -

The Wellesley raiders had their tabs on the Bishop Feehan Shamrocks right from the start. After leaving a burnt trail on their march through Southern Massachusetts, the Shamrocks surrendered to the Raiders at Brockton High School on Thursday, March 6. From the very beginning, Wellesley hit right at Feehan's soft spot, and with Wellesley's senior Captain Chelsea Sanders weighing down Feehan powerhouse Amy Lepley, Bishop Feehan never managed to recover from their point-deficit.

While Lepley remained hindered by the relentless Wellesley coverage, juniors Jenna Roncarati and Morgan Lindberg, and senior Captain Emma Creedon stepped up to the Raiders, a team that demonstrated tireless accuracy and a talent for wrangling turnovers.

Feehan started the game on good footing, netting four points in the first two minutes; but Wellesley quickly pulled ahead, and ended the first quarter, 15-8.

Executing a clean game, unfortunately for Feehan, Wellesley remained foul-less through the first half. Despite a pair of three-pointers scored by Lindberg, and Creedon pulling-up the slack while Lepley remained bogged down by Sanders, Feehan wasn't able to scrounge up the points to enter half time at an advantage.

For a brief moment in the third quarter, Bishop Feehan gave some hope to the raucous crowd of Feehan fans in Brockton's stands. Capitalizing on free throws, Roncarati and junior Kate Degan, sent four points Feehan's way and gained a fleeting one-point lead. Fueled by it, Roncarati stacked on eight more points in the quarter, and Bishop Feehan ended the third quarter behind only three points, 42-39.

It was classic tale of the unprepared being foisted by the prepared. While the Shamrocks boasted a better record, 22-0, than the 17-3 Raiders, and a more reputed roster made more daunting by one of Massachusetts top-scorers, the Raiders, fourth seeded, pushed the top-seeded Shamrocks from their throne with a more practiced game.

No time was this better demonstrated than in the final quarter of the MIAA's quarter-final game. Desperate for a final timely lead, Bishop Feehan pulled out the stops, sending senior Captain Kerin DeGirolamo and senior Christina Perez to push hard against Wellesley's defense. Junior Alexandra Sturdy sent three three-pointers at the net, making only the final shot, and Lepley broke away from the Wellesley defense to bring the ball down court for Creedon and Roncarati, who gained only two points between them. While Feehan threw their weight onto offense for only nine points, Wellesley took the game with a 21-point gain, to end the undefeated Shamrocks' reign with a 63-48 lead.

While their first loss marked the end of a remarkable season, Bishop Feehan's girls' basketball team will be returning with veteran juniors, including Lepley, Roncarati, Lindberg, Degan, and Sturdy, all more emboldened by the loss to Wellesley.
