For the first time in its eight-year existence, the North Attleborough Youth Wrestling, Kryptonite Club, can boast a New England champion.
Sixth-grader Dan Kummer, who two weeks ago won a Mass State title, topped that achievement on Sunday in Hudson by capturing the Club's first ever All New England Youth championship.
Kummer a sixth-grader with three years of wrestling experience in the Kryptonite Club, defeated three of New England's finest youth wrestlers on the way to winning the title in the 120-pound Novice Division.
In his first match of the tournament, Kummer defeated the number-one wrestler from Maine by pinning him in 54 seconds in the first period with a well-executed arm-bar to get his opponent over on his back.
In his second bout of the day, Kummer faced the usually powerful top-seated wrestler from Connecticut. Falling behind 6-3 after the first two periods, Kummer reversed his opponent with a "Peterson Roll," and then powered him onto to his back to record a pin victory and advance to the championship bout of the day.
Proving he was the dominant wrestler of the day, Kummer pinned his Finals opponent, Connecticut's second best wrestler, in the first period. After getting the initial take-down of the match, Kummer used a "Cradle" to get his foe on his back and record the pin in just 43 seconds of the first period, to claim his title.
Also placing in the New England tournament was seventh-grader, Bobby Deveau, who placed sixth in the "Middle school" 190-lb division.
